Nutrition, canteen and cafeteria services at Sakarya University are carried out by the 'Cafeterias and Enterprises Branch Directorate'. Food service is provided to all students at the university. Meals prepared after 'ISO 9000-9002 HACCP' and 'TSE' checks are prepared under the supervision of expert dietitians, by calculating the calorie requirement according to the season, and each month's meal menu is published. A total of 32 canteens provide service within the university, including the Campus Cafeteria. In addition, restaurants located in the center of the campus offer budget-friendly meal options that comply with the specified standards. In addition, the purchasing conditions for the meals served at Sakarya University comply with ethical conditions and are carried out in accordance with the directive regarding outsourcing services in public institutions. Nutrition, canteen and cafeteria services are constantly inspected by food engineers and dietitians.

Sakarya University aims to prevent environmental pollution, reduce waste generation, leave a cleaner and more livable environment for future generations and provide added value to the economy. He participated in the Zero Waste movement initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. In this direction, in accordance with the Zero Waste Regulation, Sakarya University Zero Waste Directive was defined in 2019 and Zero Waste Coordination was established (https://sifiratik.sakarya.edu.tr/tr). The University's Responsible University policy also includes the Zero Waste policy implemented by the university institutionally. Practices in line with the university's zero waste policy are carried out by the Zero Waste Coordination Office. Within the scope of Sakarya University's zero waste policy, the amount of recycled waste is measured using regular landfills regarding waste disposal. Sakarya University follows a legal method in waste disposal within the scope of zero waste regulation. The amounts of disposed and recycled waste according to their types are recorded monthly. The university was entitled to receive a Zero Waste Certificate by the relevant ministry in 2019, thanks to its practices within the scope of the Zero Waste policy.

In accordance with the zero waste policy within the scope of Sakarya University Zero Waste Management; Studies are carried out to regularly collect, store, dispose of and quantitatively monitor waste by classifying it as hazardous waste. Hazardous waste generated in laboratories and administrative buildings is stored in accordance with the Waste Management Regulation and Hazardous Waste Management Guide and sent to a licensed waste incineration and evaluation company. A temporary storage area was built to store hazardous waste for 180 days in accordance with the relevant regulation. In addition, hazardous waste such as batteries and printer cartridges are collected and recycled. The resulting medical waste is collected in accordance with the Medical Waste Control Regulation and delivered to the licensed Medical Waste Sterilization Facility.

Sakarya University also has practices to minimize the use of plastic and disposable products within the scope of its zero waste policy. In areas such as cafes, cafeterias, canteens and teahouses, presentations are made with durable materials instead of disposable or plastic products and their use is encouraged. In addition, these policies are stated among the rules that companies providing services in the field of plastic use must comply with in their service purchasing agreements.

The implementation of the procedures and principles regarding zero waste management also includes our supplier companies and the businesses from which we purchase services. These rules are included in the companies' contracts.
