Sakarya University has water quality standards and guidelines on water discharge. Before water discharge, waste oil filters are used to prevent waste oils from threatening the nature. In addition, wastewater recovery processes are implemented in cooperation with Sakarya Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ) for the recycling of wastewater.
Sakarya University also has practices to minimize the use of plastic and disposable products within the scope of its zero waste policy. In areas such as cafes, cafeterias, canteens and teahouses, presentations are made with durable materials instead of disposable or plastic products and their use is encouraged. In addition, these policies are stated among the rules that companies providing services in the field of plastic use must comply with in their service purchasing agreements.
In accordance with the zero waste policy within the scope of Sakarya University Zero Waste Management; Studies are carried out to regularly collect, store, dispose of and quantitatively monitor waste by classifying it as hazardous waste. Hazardous waste generated in laboratories and administrative buildings is stored in accordance with the Waste Management Regulation and Hazardous Waste Management Guide and sent to a licensed waste incineration and evaluation company. A temporary storage area was built to store hazardous waste for 180 days in accordance with the relevant regulation. In addition, hazardous waste such as batteries and printer cartridges are collected and recycled. The resulting medical wastes are collected in accordance with the Medical Waste Control Regulation and delivered to the licensed Medical Waste Sterilization Facility (https://sifiratik.sakarya.edu.tr/).
