The university also focuses on sustainable infrastructure by aiming to build smart buildings that use renewable energy sources. These buildings are designed with natural ventilation and lighting to minimize energy consumption. In addition, considering the regional climate, pine and cedar trees were planted on campus. These trees, which require minimal irrigation, are well-suited to the humid climate of the area and contribute to local biodiversity.
Furthermore, Sakarya University has a policy aimed at reducing the spread of invasive species that negatively affect agriculture. The university works to control alien species that threaten crops in this agriculturally rich region, collaborating with the local community to maintain common land ecosystems. This includes partnerships with recycling enterprises, waste disposal companies, and water and sewerage administrations to ensure sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Sakarya University actively collaborates with local entities to maintain and enhance shared land ecosystems. The university partners with waste disposal companies such as Sakarya Entegre Katı Atık Yönetimi A.Ş. (SEKAY) [URL] and İzmit Atık ve Artıkları Arıtma Yakma ve Değerlendirme A.Ş. (İZAYDAŞ) [URL] to ensure effective waste management and environmental protection. Additionally, the university works with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change (Çevre, Şehircilik ve İklim Değişikliği Bakanlığı) and the Sakarya Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ) [URL] on various projects related to land conservation, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability. Through these collaborations, Sakarya University demonstrates its commitment to preserving and enhancing local land ecosystems in partnership with both governmental and private organizations.
