Tracking women's rate of application, acceptance or entry
In Turkey, students' university application and acceptance processes are carried out centrally by the Student Selection and Placement Center. Therefore, the gender information of the students at the application stage is known and monitored only by the Student Selection and Placement Center. This information is notified to the university after students gain the right to enroll. During and after the registration phase, Sakarya University tracks the male-female distribution of students, duration of study and completion rates through its own information system (URL 1). However, the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has implemented a quota policy that aims to increase access to higher education for women over the age of 34 and to provide equal opportunities in education with a regulation starting from 2023. This special quota is a special quota reserved for associate and undergraduate programs that accept students through central placement at state universities. In this context, Sakarya University has reserved special quotas for women aged 34 and over in various programs in the 2023 Higher Education Institutions (YKS) preferences (URL 2).
