Sakarya Sustainable Energy Action Plan

Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) are strategic documents prepared by local governments. They include established targets on sustainable energy use and climate action, as well as strategic decisions on climate change and energy efficiency. Through these plans, cities move closer to achieving sustainable development goals.

SECAP is aligned with the European Union's 2030 Climate and Energy Framework objectives, enabling local governments to contribute to these goals. In this context, it supports targets such as a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and an increase in renewable energy use.

Within this scope, our university’s academics have played an active role in the preparation of the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality's Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan, which takes significant steps to mitigate the impacts of climate change in our city and accelerate the adaptation process to the changing climate structure. Representing Sakarya University, they participated in working groups and collaborated with local governments. In doing so, they shared the knowledge and experience within the university with stakeholders, contributing to the city.
