Employment Practice

Sakarya University is a public institution where salaries for academic and administrative staff are set at the national level through collective bargaining between the government and unions, with annual inflation reflected in pay increases. Compensation is determined strictly by seniority and hierarchical level, with no discrimination based on gender, religion, language, or race. The same pay scales apply across all public universities. All staff are paid above the subsistence level, with additional allowances such as child benefits, and academic staff are eligible for performance-based incentives tied to their scholarly activities.

The university upholds the union and labor rights of all employees, including women and international staff. Rights such as annual leave, promotions, and salary increases are applied uniformly across public institutions. The Human Resources Management policy strictly prohibits workplace discrimination on the basis of religion, sexual orientation, gender, or age, and any violation results in an investigation.

Employment is governed by Civil Servants Law No. 657, ensuring transparent recruitment processes. Vacancies are publicly announced, and selections for relevant positions are conducted by lottery under the supervision of a notary public. Academic appointments are made objectively by independent juries drawn from different universities.

Outsourcing practices at the university guarantee equal treatment and rights for contracted employees. Compliance is actively monitored, and contracts may be terminated if obligations are not met.

In line with the university’s ethical standards, gender-based pay discrimination is strictly prohibited; wages are set according to authority and seniority. Employees can submit anonymous complaints or requests through the quality management system or suggestion boxes, and confidentiality is maintained unless otherwise requested.
