Water Supply, Usage, Care and Consumption

Sakarya University is committed to sustainable water management by strategically utilizing various sources and implementing efficient water-saving practices across its campus. The university regularly monitors water consumption from all sources and prioritizes using water-saving devices. Efforts include the installation of spray filters, automatic urinal control devices, waterless urinals, low-flush toilets, and automatic taps. More than 60% of water-using devices are designed for efficiency, with most of the older buildings and all new buildings equipped with such fixtures.

Water Efficient Devices

To further minimize water use, Sakarya University has implemented efficient irrigation systems and landscape designs. Rainwater and spring water, naturally replenished within campus borders, are stored in nine separate tanks and used to irrigate green spaces via automated underground channels. Pine and cedar trees require minimal maintenance and water and are integrated into the campus landscape. Mains water is not used for irrigation but to conserve treated municipal water.

For essential needs that require specific water quality, the university uses 100% treated water supplied by the local municipality, ensuring safety for the campus community. Sakarya University provides free drinking water to students, staff, and visitors. The tap water in Sakarya is drinkable, allowing convenient access to free drinking water throughout the campus. Comprehensive analyses conducted by Sakarya Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ), with contributions from Sakarya University faculty, confirm the safety and quality of this tap water, and the findings are regularly published and shared with the public [URL]. Additionally, water dispensers are available on campus for free use by visitors and residents. Drinking water fountains are strategically placed around the campus to ensure easy access to clean drinking water.

Sakarya University actively promotes conscious water usage on campus through a variety of initiatives. Educational programs include courses on effective water management, accessible to all students, along with public seminars aimed at raising awareness about water conservation. The university has also implemented water-efficient infrastructure, such as spray filters, automatic urinal controls, waterless urinals, low-flush toilets, and automatic taps to reduce water use. Additionally, visual reminders are strategically placed in high-usage areas across campus to encourage mindful water consumption among students, staff, and visitors. Through these combined efforts, Sakarya University fosters a culture of water conservation within its community.

Sakarya University actively promotes conscious water usage within the wider community through various initiatives. The university organizes public seminars and offers courses on effective water management, aiming to raise awareness about water conservation practices among a broader audience. Collaborative efforts with local entities, such as the Sakarya Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ), enhance these initiatives by implementing water conservation strategies and sharing research findings with regional management units to inform improvement actions. Through these outreach and partnership efforts, Sakarya University fosters a culture of water conservation that extends beyond the campus, benefiting the broader community.
