Sakarya University (SAU) contributes to local and regional public policy development addressing poverty, social exclusion and socioeconomic inequalities through cooperation with government institutions and participation in provincial action plans.
During 2025, SAU academics were formally appointed to working groups and technical committees coordinated by the Sakarya Governorship and the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
Roma Inclusion and Social Policy: Prof. Dr. Hasan Hüseyin Taylan and Research Assistant Cengizhan Aynacı were appointed to the Roma Strategy Document Provincial Action Plan Working Group in 2025, contributing academic expertise to policies addressing disadvantaged Roma communities. This engagement builds on SAU's 2024 Workshop on the Problems and Solution Proposals of Roma Citizens in Sakarya, organised within the framework of the 2023–2025 Provincial Action Plan, where poverty, employment, housing, education and social exclusion were discussed and policy-related recommendations were identified.
Family Welfare and Social Protection: SAU representatives participated in the Provincial Technical Committee for the Protection and Strengthening of Families and related policy-development activities. The Ministry's official announcement confirms that the provincial action plan was prepared in 2025 and that implementation activities were monitored. These efforts support family welfare, social protection and responses to socioeconomic vulnerability.
Women's Empowerment and Equal Opportunities: SAU academics participated in the consultation process for the Provincial Women's Empowerment Action Plan. The Ministry's official workshop announcement documents the involvement of public institutions, universities and civil society organisations in developing recommendations to strengthen women's economic and social participation.
These contributions align with SAU's 2025–2027 Strategic Plan and Social Contribution and Sustainability Policies.
Through its documented participation in government-led working groups, policy consultations and provincial action-plan processes, Sakarya University supports evidence-informed public policy development addressing the social and structural dimensions of poverty, in alignment with SDG 1 – No Poverty.
