8.2.9 Employment Practice Labour Rights

Sakarya University (SAU) recognizes employees' freedom of association and collective bargaining rights in accordance with applicable national legislation and institutional employment practices. The University respects the employment and association rights of all employees, including women and international staff, within the framework of applicable legal provisions.

Articles 51 and 53 of the Constitution of the Republic of Türkiye establish constitutional safeguards for employees' rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. Furthermore, Public Servants' Trade Unions and Collective Agreement Law No. 4688 regulates trade union rights and collective bargaining procedures for public servants, while Trade Unions and Collective Labour Agreements Law No. 6356 governs freedom of association and collective bargaining rights for employees with worker status.

Sakarya University supports this legal framework through institutional collective labour agreement practices. The collective labour agreements signed between the University Rectorate and the Turkish Union of Cooperative, Commercial, Educational and Office Workers (KOOP-İŞ) provide concrete examples of trade union representation and collective bargaining practices within the University.

The University makes documents concerning employees' trade union rights and collective bargaining processes publicly accessible through the official website of the Permanent Workers Branch Directorate under the Personnel Department. In this context, the published First-Term Collective Labour Agreement and Second-Term Collective Labour Agreement provide institutional evidence supporting the recognition of employees' trade union rights and the implementation of collective bargaining mechanisms. The publication of these documents on the University's official website contributes to transparency and employees' access to information.

Through legally protected trade union rights, collective bargaining mechanisms, and institutional collective labour agreement practices, Sakarya University demonstrates its commitment to respecting employees' freedom of association and safeguarding their rights in the workplace.
