Free online educational resources

Sakarya University supports access to educational resources for people who are not enrolled at the University through open digital collections and publicly available learning materials. The Library and Documentation Department’s 2025 Activity Report records 11,538 full-text publications available through the Institutional Open Academic Archive. The report also identifies these resources as accessible to people who do not study at the University. This figure represents the reported stock of accessible resources in 2025. [1]

A dated example is the April 2025 issue of the Sakarya University Journal of Education. External readers can read and download all seven research articles free of charge under the journal’s published access policy. This issue provides a direct route to educational research for teachers and other readers outside the University. [13]

The Library maintains a public directory of open-access databases, providing routes to freely accessible scholarly and educational information. It also publishes online user-training materials. A specific example is the recording linked from its official announcement following the training session held on 22 July 2025, which explains the use of clinical information resources. [3, 5] The FAQ also confirms that the Library’s educational videos can be watched free of charge. [2]

ILA Talks advertised a free online session for practising preschool educators on 1 October 2025. Its announcement named Sakarya University as a partner, identified an SAÜ lecturer and offered participating educators a bilingual digital certificate. [14, 15]

The University Library’s publicly accessible digital portal (kutuphane.sakarya.edu.tr) provides open access to a range of language learning resources including the ‘50 Languages’, BBC Learning English, and Open Culture platforms. The portal additionally offers a Virtual Library gateway linking to open courseware, encyclopaedias, and digital archives, as well as the University’s Open Academic Archive, which makes research outputs freely available to external users [6].

Documented external engagement in 2025

The 2025 Library Activity Report records 58 user-training sessions, including 22 library orientation sessions for groups from outside the University. It also records the publication of online training recordings on the Library’s official video channel. [1]

The University and the Provincial Directorate of National Education continued the ‘Geleceğime Yön Veriyorum’ school outreach programme in autumn 2025. One group visited the Faculty of Law. [7a, 7b]

Sakarya University published recordings of science talks on its YouTube channel, giving the public access to the talks after the events. [8a, 8b]

The University’s 2025 Sustainability Report also records that publicly accessible historical and cultural heritage content is provided through the ‘Sakarya City Memory’ (Sakarya Şehir Belleği) digital platform, extending the University’s portfolio of freely accessible online resources to audiences beyond those reached by the Library’s academic and language-learning collections. [9]

The July 2025 Year of the Family programme invited foster families, older people, people with disabilities and their families to campus. The announced programme included parent–child workshops on 8 July and health and safety education on 17 and 31 July. [10]

In August the University invited families to workshops and talks on entrepreneurship, parenting, health and technology. Its 19 August report describes families taking part in the ‘From Idea to Invention’ workshop and visiting partner organisations’ information stands. [11, 12]
