2.3.4 Healthy and Affordable Food Choices on Campus

Sakarya University (SAU) supports students' and staff members' access to healthy, balanced, and affordable food options. As outlined in the University's 2025 Administrative Performance Programme, the University is committed to maintaining food services for students based on the principles of affordability and high quality.

Food services are managed by the University's Cafeterias and Catering Services Branch Directorate. Meal menus are prepared with the support of dietitians, taking into account students' daily energy requirements. The menus are designed to provide approximately 900–1,200 calories, excluding bread, and offer four-course meals with a choice of main dishes. Food engineers monitor the quality certifications of ingredients and their compliance with technical specifications. The University also regularly publishes its daily and monthly meal menus, making them publicly accessible.

University dining services are provided at the student and staff dining halls on Esentepe Campus, as well as at the Faculties of Education, Medicine, and Dentistry and the Vocational School of Health Services. Students and staff access these services through a card-based automated system.

The University applies different meal contribution fees for students and staff, with the applicable rates published on the Meal Price List page of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports. This approach promotes transparency in meal pricing and supports consideration of students' financial circumstances.

Additionally, Campus Kitchen (Kampüs Mutfak), opened by Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality in the university campus area in 2025, provides students with a variety of affordable hot meal options prepared under hygienic conditions. According to the municipality's official announcement, the facility offers 12–15 different dishes daily. Under its student-specific pricing scheme in April 2025, soups were offered at TRY 15, traditional hot dishes at TRY 20, chicken dishes at TRY 25, and meat dishes at TRY 40.

According to Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality's 2025 service evaluation, Campus Kitchen provided approximately 105,000 student meal services between April and December 2025. The same announcement stated that students could access a meal consisting of soup, rice, and a main dish for an average of TRY 75.

Through nutritionally planned meals prepared under professional supervision, dining services across different campuses, publicly available meal prices, and affordable food alternatives in the campus area, Sakarya University supports students' and staff members' access to healthy and economically accessible meals.
