5.3.2  Policy on women’s applications, admission, entry and participation

Sakarya University’s Gender Equality Plan 2022–2025 sets out equal treatment for students and staff and positive measures for disadvantaged groups. The University also publishes its commitment to women’s access and participation on its Women’s Applications and Admissions Policy page. [1, 2]

The plan commits the University to fair decisions without gender discrimination. It includes student gender-awareness activities and curriculum objectives and assigns annual implementation, monitoring and reporting to the Senate and the Women’s Studies Application and Research Centre (SAUKAM). National selection rules and their application at SAÜ

The 2025 national YKS admissions framework provides a designated quota for eligible women who had reached age 34 by 1 January 2025. Applicants indicate their eligibility and choice in the preference system. Placement considers general quotas first and the designated quota in accordance with scores and programme conditions. Prior bachelor’s graduates are excluded; prior associate-degree graduates may use only eligible bachelor’s quotas. Universities check degree eligibility at registration. This is a national access measure applying to the listed programmes. [3, section 2.2, printed pp. 4–6]

In the 2025 YKS guide, SAÜ bachelor’s programmes offering places under the national quota included Psychology (programme 108890241, two places), Human Resources Management (108810544, three) and Nursing (108810968, three). [3, Table 4, printed p. 292]

The Gender Equality Plan covers participation during study. One documented example in 2025 was the Women in Business Micro-Credential Programme, which offered women students free training in career development, sustainability and entrepreneurship. The University describes this provision in its Sustainability Report (printed p. 43). [2, 7]

For central undergraduate placement, ÖSYM administers applications and selection. SAÜ monitors registration using its student records. Its public account also identifies programme-level gender information in YÖK Atlas. [4, 5]

Across all admission routes in the 2025–2026 registration table, 6,029 of 11,248 new entrants were women (53.60%). [5, 6]

Scope of the designated quota

Across SAÜ bachelor’s programme rows, Table 4 of the 2025 YKS guide lists 63 places for eligible women aged 34 or over. The count covers advertised places in the main national admissions guide. [3]
