Tracking Women’s Graduation Rate

5.6.7  Tracking women’s graduation rate

Graduates by qualification level, 2024–2025

Student Affairs publishes graduate counts by sex, qualification level and academic unit. Its table for the 2024–2025 academic year records 7,989 graduates, of whom 4,653 were women and 3,336 were men. Women accounted for 58.24% of all graduates (4,653 ÷ 7,989). The figures cover the academic year, which overlaps the 2025 reporting period. [1, 2]

Graduate composition by qualification

In its account of 2024, the University described tracking women’s and men’s study duration and graduation outcomes in its own systems. The 2025 institutional activity report confirms that the Student Information System covers course registration through graduation and that Student Affairs manages administrative student records. [3, 4]

Women accounted for 2,990 of 5,167 bachelor’s graduates (57.87%) and 74 of 171 doctoral graduates (43.27%) in 2024–2025. Both percentages use all graduates at the corresponding qualification level as the denominator. [1, 2]

Graduate students on medical leave for pregnancy or childbirth

The University’s General Principles for Graduate Programmes, updated by the Senate on 30 December 2025 (meeting 730, decision 14), provide for a leave of absence for graduate students with a medical report for pregnancy or childbirth, subject to a decision by the institute’s executive board. When a student reports that the medical condition has ended, the board may authorise re-enrolment following review. Article 16 sets out both steps. [5]

An additional examination for students close to graduation

On 20 June 2025 the Senate approved a three-course examination for 6 October 2025 (meeting 714, decision 9). It covered students who became eligible to graduate following a summer internship or recognition of courses taken at another university during the summer term. The decision applied to eligible students of either sex. [6]

The graduate leave procedure covers pregnancy and childbirth. The three-course examination offered a separate route to completion for students who met its eligibility conditions. [5, 6]

Admission and enrolment records

ÖSYM administered central placement for the 2025 national undergraduate entrance examination (YKS). Graduate admission followed a separate route. For example, SAÜ’s Graduate School of Business published its own July 2025 application and August registration dates. After enrolment, SAÜ maintains the student records described in its activity report. [4, 7, 8]

Student Affairs also publishes the underlying breakdown by faculty, graduate school and vocational school. The three rightmost columns report men (Erkek), women (Kız) and all graduates (Toplam) for each unit. The final row reconciles to the university-wide total on page 1. [1, 2]
